Another Early Review For The Dark Knight

Reddit

By Edgar 'El Toro' Arce on June 25, 2008

Back in April Batman On Film posted the first review of this film and now The fellas over at AICN have posted another review for The Dark Knight on their website.

It’s from a reader that had an opportunity to see the 2 hour plus film. Yes…..2 1/2 hours of sheer Batman Badass. According to the review, everyone in the film is in rare form…and it’s not the first time I read that Ledger might be an award nominee favorite. Wouldn’t that be the ultimate irony?

I saw the IMAX footage that was online almost a year ago, and thought it was pretty damn cool. So I know not having seen the film, and only the opening, the pacing and tone are set almost immediately. And it’s done in true Nolan fashion. The thing I like most about the review is that many had thought Nolan would be a one trick pony because of the way Memento had a gimmicky storyline to it (If you haven’t seen Memento yet, go jump off a bridge cause you’re an idiot for not). As far I know, Batman returns put everyone at ease with a spectacular reinventing of the franchise. It sounds like Nolan doesn’t take a step backwards with The Dark Knight, and instead leaps forward towards unlimited possibilities as director of this film.

So in reading the review, we know these facts:

Nolan is genius as the director of this film. It’s no nonsense, and TDK doesn’t feel like a comic book film at all, instead feels like a true detective story, which is the heart of who Batman really is…a criminal detective.

Heath ledger is critically acclaimed as the joker. We finally get the joker that we all really wanted. Long gone are the images of Caesar Romero, and Jack Nicholson….its sound like even the Mark Hamill incarnation of Joker now takes a back seat to Ledgers. I for one can’t wait to see what he delivers on the big screen!

The Dark Knight is all about Harvey Dent….a.k.a Two Face. Apparently Aaron Eckhart trounces Tommy Lee Jones as the D.A. with a very solid performance.

I like the comparisons the reviewer makes of this film and the movie ‘Heat’. They say Batman is the Pacino character who’s burnt out and would like to be out, but knows he’s has to do his job or no one will. The Joker is DeNiro, deliberate, cold, making no excuses. The players involved making this a serious comic book film that deals with morality. I like the line in the trailer where Dent says ‘you either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain’. That line alone seems to sum up the entire film. So….am I anxious to see the film? You’re damn right I am, and this review just made me want it even more!

So read it, and tell me what you think. I would have posted portions of it here, but it’s a good read since its coming out soon…and I don’t want to chop it up for my fans, plus some people cry too much when I do that. So for this time around, I’ll let you do the footwork.
