Arkin and the Oscar curse
By Ronnie Adams on February 28, 2007

Has Alan Arkin already been bitten by the cursed Oscar bug? It just might be as he follows in the footsteps of Cuba Gooding Jr., Halle Berry and Roberto Benigni (technically, you could toss in Charlize Theron) following up an Oscar win with a questionable role for an Academy Award winning actor. Arkin has signed on to team up with his
Little Miss Sunshine co-star Steve Carell in the big screen adaptation of
Get Smart.
Arkin has been around since the 50's so he's probably already had his ups and downs so the Oscar curse might not mean much to him. And after all, he was in
The Jerky Boys movie, so karma might have already come calling a long time ago. Read excerpts from
The Hollywood Reporter article below.
Oscar winner Alan Arkin is reuniting with his "Little Miss Sunshine" co-star Steve Carell in the big-screen version of "Get Smart," which Peter Segal is directing for Warner Bros. Pictures.
Arkin will play the chief of CONTROL, the organization that fights the evil forces of KAOS. Edward Platt played the character in the 1965 TV series.
Carell is on board as secret agent Maxwell Smart, with Anne Hathaway as Agent 99. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Terrence Stamp also have been cast.
