Comic Con Report 2008: Summit Entertainment Panel
By Chris “El Guero” Mora on July 24, 2008
PUSH is an ensemble movie with the likes of Dakota Fanning, Chris Evans, Djimon Hounson and Camilla Belle. Psychic powers, Nazi experimentation, and a large governmental agency trying to keep it all under wraps or kills though that do not comply. A true departure for Dakota the scene they showed us had her in a very adult type role, where she utters a curse word. Chris Evans plays the Han Solo of the film who Dakota seeks out to help her out in her quest to rescue her mother. Needless to say the film does look to have some promise but buying Djimon as a bad guy will be tough to do.
Knowing is the next Nicolas Cage film directed by Alex Proyas whose list of credits includes The Crow. This film tells the story of a girl whose scribbled down a sequence of numbers that have accurately predicted several major disasters, including 09-11-01. Nicolas sets about trying to determine what the remaining numbers mean for his fate and the fate of the world. Yeah I know seems like we have seen this sort of thing before but with Alex Proyas thrown in the mix this film too may get a good buzz going about it.
I knew I was in trouble when I began to notice the hall filling up with teenage girls and it would not be long before I would begin to understand. Summit is bringing to the big screen one of the most successful teen book series of all time
Twilight. Just the mere showing of the title on the massive screens inside the hall caused the 6200 loyal female fans screaming and chanting the name of the film. Even though there were two other movies to be discussed, Knowing and Push they paled in comparison to the response that Twilight received. If the response in hall H was any indication of the response this movie will receive in the public it will be huge for Summit for sure.
I have to run now my ears plugged with fluid from the high pitch tones of the girl fans. Back for more later party people.
