George Lopez Is Here

By Ryan 'The Rican with the Irish name' McLelland on July 18, 2007

Alright!  Let's get some LATINO NEWS ON!

George Lopez will first shoot "Henry Poole Is Here," a dramedy from Mark Pellington. The comedian then will segue to "Swing Vote," a Radar Pictures comedy starring Kevin Costner, who also is producing says The Hollywood Reporter.

"Poole," based on an original screenplay by Albert Torres, centers on a man (Luke Wilson) who discovers that he only has six weeks to live. He leaves his job, fiancee and overbearing mother and tries to spend his remaining days in seclusion. But he goes through a miracle transformation, and his neighbors disrupt his plan.

Lopez, who will play a priest, joins Adriana Barraza and Radha Mitchell in the film.

"Vote," directed by Joshua Michael Stern and written by Stern and Jason Richman, centers on a single father who is thrust into the national spotlight when the presidential election comes down to his vote. Lopez will play a local TV station manager whose town is descended upon by the political machinery of both parties.

The comedy, which also has Dennis Hopper, Nathan Lane, Kelsey Grammer and Stanley Tucci in its cast, begins production this month in New Mexico.

Lopez also will lend his voice to the Walt Disney Pictures comedy "South of the Border," being directed by Raja Gosnell.

Lopez recently signed a two-year, first-look deal with Warner Premiere to produce direct-to-DVD features. No projects have been announced.
