Since I come from a comic book background I'm considered the "go-to comic book guy" here at Latino Review. It's a title I don't mind - I live and breathe everything 'comic book' so I'm happy to talk about them day in and day on until my face turns blue.
I haven't gotten a chance to read either of Radical Comics debut books yet but they had some amazing talent on both Hercules: The Thracian Wars and Caliber: First Canon. They had Jim Steranko do a cover. STERANKO! The man is a legend among legends. Ordinarily sellouts occur all the time in comics. You can print up 1,000 books that go all over the country and BICKITY-BAM you have a sellout. But they had some monster orders for these books and Diamond (the comic distributor) have no more in stock to send. Pretty impressive for a new comic company.
From the press release:
Copies of Radical Comics debut books, Hercules: The Thracian Wars #1 and Caliber: First Canon of Justice #1 hit stores on April 30th, and on that first day retailers started emailing and calling Radical Publishing, informing the staff that they have sold out and Diamond wasn't accepting reorders.
"Having faith in our own books, we had anticipated a large demand for our Hercules and Caliber and had printed an extra 5000 copies of each title to avoid a situation like this." states Barry Levine, Radical Publishing's President and Publisher. "Unfortunately, a Purchase Order snafu on the Diamond database system didn't recognize these extra copies having been already delivered to one of the Diamond warehouses. Retailers who were previously turned down should place their reorders now and quickly before these extra copies also sell out. Any subsequent printings of Hercules #1 and Caliber #1 will retail for $2.99 and will not be in prestige format."
